iKON – I’m OK
iKON revealed their comeback on January 7th, 2019, with their repackage album New Kids Repackage: The New Kids. The track “I’m OK” was the lead track of this album written by iKON’s B.I. and Future Bounce with lyrics by B.I, Bobby, and Kim Jong Won.
This album is the last iKON album with B.I before his departure in June 2019 making a compilation of the 2017 single album New Kids: Begin, the 2018 album Return, the digital single “Rubber Band,” and the EPs New Kids: Continue and New Kids: The Final.
The meaning of the title track “I’m OK” is: “The message of the song comes from an idea of how people get sadder when people ask them, ‘Are you OK?’ and how they cry even more when told not to cry,” stated by B.I.
Bobby also said, “The song has its strength in its catchy melody. Many listeners will be able to empathize with the song.”

Dreamcatcher – PIRI
Dream Catcher, a group under Happy Face Entertainment, released “Piri” on February 13th, 2019. This song has a horror concept and an edgy vibe. In the music video, the scary ghost was shown in a chase down a hall, surrounded by creepy dolls, receiving a scary phone call, and the members dressed in red performing an unexpected dance choreography.
Dreamcatcher really offered a unique and different concept, especially compared to other girl groups in K-Pop. The vibe is somewhat similar to the one the girl group Crayon Pop used to give off.
“PIRI” is the title track off the group’s new mini-album The End of Nightmare.

TXT – Crown
The boy band TXT under Big Hit Entertainment released their comeback in 2019 with the title track “Crown” from the album The Dream Chapter: Star.
The concept of TXT’s “Crown” is a story about a boy who suddenly grows horns on his head. The boy is afraid of what people would say and he decides to hide in a place where there is no one until he sees a light. The boy meets another boy with wings and finally, he smiles. The boys recognize each other and since then they are not alone anymore.
Some news said this album of TXT has a correlation with BTS since the concept of the song is using wings and it is meaningful for someone who is different and is not just alone anymore.

NCT 127 – Superhuman
NCT 127 released We Are Superhuman on May 24th, 2019, under the label SM Entertainment. This South Korean boy band also announced their first Japanese album, Awaken a month earlier on April 18th, 2019. Both the albums have the lead single “Superhuman” and five other tracks.
The superb track “Superhuman” is talking about how we all have our super-power possibilities. Mark, NCT rapper explains to Forbes, “We wanted to show that to people.” This song has offered disco, house and hit electro-pop which might be the band’s catchiest chorus to date. You need to listen up too!
The band launched “Superhuman” with a performance on Good Morning America on April 18th. They are the third Korean act to appear on the program.
Mark the rapper explained that this song was also inspired by the movie Superman where Clark Kent begins transforming into Superman by opening up his shirt at his chest which they use as the main choreography point.
You will see the choreography that ends with a move where the guys are near-ripping open their shirts in a nod to one of the most iconic superheroes. And this move has become the signature of the choreography.
Among their achievements with the track “Superhuman” is debuting at number three on the World Digital Song Sales chart, with one thousand downloads sold, becoming the group’s seventh top-ten song on the chart. Moreover, We Are Superhuman also debuted at number 11 on the US Billboard 200 with 27,000 equivalent album units (with 25,000 being traditional sales) which has made NCT 127’s highest-charted album in the chart, also, second highest-charted K-Pop group in the chart.

fromis_9 – FUN!
Fromis 9 also released their comeback on June 4th, 2019. Their lead track “Fun Factory” is the first on their latest single album. They launched first this single on Mnet’s M Countdown, followed by performances on KBS’ Music Bank, MBC’s Show! Music Core, and SBS’ Inkigayo.
The concept of the song is about having fun which starts with the girls appearing stressed and bored and then doing something fun and enjoying in different forms. Jiwon eats a plate of macarons, Gyuri waits until midnight to unbox various objects, Jiheon tries out virtual reality, Jisun engages in a gaming marathon, Seoyeon gets lost inside books, Nakyung believes she can fly on a trampoline, Saerom exercises with the TV, Chaeyoung watches a scary movie, and finally, Hayoung plays some board games.
They also imitate television advertisements from various brands such as Gyuri’s set as a hair model for Funsilk (Sunsilk) mixing references from the other brand and from a touching Pantene-like advertisement from Thailand. There is also a clip about a deaf girl learning how to play the violin despite criticism from her peers, and making a breathtaking performance wrapped up by Pantene’s slogan, “you can shine.”
Another reference to a commercial that they showed in the MV is Seoyeon doing the model for Fromisnine’s (Maybelline) makeup ads, Saerom shining for Fr’óreal (L’Óreal), Jiheon and Hayoung selling bottles of Fromi Sweat (Pocari Sweat), Nakyung and Jiwon are best friends for Clear&Clean (Clean&Clear), Seoyeon and Saerom double up as dark, sporty models in a Fromis (Adidas) parody, and Jisun and Jiwon lend their visuals to sell a green plum drink (Woongjin Green Plum Drink). So smart!
Fromis 9 also performed an energetic dance routine highlighting the Bomb Noodles. The noodle product that has been popular nowadays. They threw the ingredients to the screen as audiences or viewers were part of their magical ingredients. They also did form poses that mirrored “Love Bomb.”
It is so entertaining and interesting to watch their MV by combining all the various commercials or ads in another form of fun. This MV brings the opportunity to show the behind the scenes footage of the girls doing the ads.

GFriend – Fever
In 2019, GFriend also made a comeback by releasing their new album Fever Season with the title track “Fever.” It was released on July 1st, 2019, by Source Music. It immediately hit the charts well by hitting at number 10 on the Billboard World Albums chart and topping the Gaon Album Chart.
GFRIEND talked about their new album concept, explaining, “We received a lot of love for our school trilogy at the beginning of our debut. We wanted to create a series again, so we brought ‘season’ from ‘Season of Glass.’”
Yerin also expressed, “Before, we had a soft concept, and this time, we tried to look cool.” Umji commented, “Although our images on stage are important, we wanted to show you how our album itself has developed, so we paid special attention to the songs.”
Yuju said, “It’s the first time I’ve been in charge of the verse part since ‘Fingertip’, so I’m excited.” Eunha added, “We worked hard to sing in a cool way.”
About the styles they use, Yuju described, “Rather than changing styles completely, we grew and transformed naturally. Rather than saying we tried on styles that didn’t suit us, we had fun practicing while thinking that it was ours.” Umji added, “We felt that it fit our age and concept well. We’re growing up, so it doesn’t seem right if we go with the same style and we don’t grow up in our songs. It’s a little new, but we’re trying not to lose too much of our [original image]. We will work harder so that many people can say, ‘GFRIEND is good at pulling this off too.’”
GFRIEND usually brings to life highschool and cute styles but now they made a change in the choreography as well. Sowon explained, “You’ll be able to see GFRIEND’s musical style upgraded to a new level. We’ll show you how much we’ve grown performance-wise, so look forward to it. There was a change in choreography, so we tried to unite in harmony while saving individual charms.”
SinB concluded, “In the past, we used to focus on sharp synchronization, and this time we focused more on individual feel and swag. Personally, I’ve never done this style of choreography, so I tried to look cool. I’ve dyed my hair an unusual color so I’m trying to maintain it.”

EVERGLOW – Adios
EVERGLOW made a comeback with a fierce concept through their new song “Adios.” This song is more powerful and demonstrates confidence in strong performances.
EVERGLOW, a band under Yuehua Entertainment, released “Adios” with such a concept that is guaranteed to easily enter your ears; their EDM-heavy chorus can make people want to dance with them, same as their previous song “Bon Bon Chocolat.” The difference is, “Adios” is stronger and gives off a girl-crush concept. Surprisingly, there is also the line: “Goodbye, au revoir, adios…” slowly whispered through the chorus that can provoke you to remember.
How they dance and the choice of fashion is fit to the theme of “Adios” itself. EVERGLOW members are wearing white military-type uniforms or black leather outfits that are tailored to each member.
