Debut Era

When the news about VERIVERY debut was confirmed by Jellyfish Entertainment on August 23rd, 2018, fans were very excited to learn more about the group. After all, the group was supposed to be the first younger brother of VIXX, which debuted back in 2012. Six years after debuting VIXX, Jellyfish Entertainment finally gave birth to a new boy group called VERIVERY, which was derived from the Latin word ‘veri’ which means ‘truth’ and the English word ‘very’. The name Veri itself means various, energetic, real, and innovative. That’s why they use the name ‘Verivery’ instead of ‘Veryvery’. This group held so much hope from the agency and garnered fans’ excitement.

Just before the group debuted, Jellyfish Entertainment wanted to showcase each of the members’ bonds by showing their activities and daily lives through a reality show Now Verivery: Real Road Movie that was broadcasted on Mnet in September 2018. Back then, the date of their debut was predicted to be somewhere between late 2018 and early 2019. The group even gathered to sing the OST of the show titled Super Special.

On September 4th, 2018, Hoyoung became the 2nd member of VERIVERY to be introduced to the public.

With the release of four teaser videos, it was revealed on December 21st, 2018, that VERIVERY would debut on an early date the next year. The group released their individual teaser photos from December 27th to December 29th, 2018, followed by unit teaser photos on December 3rd, 2018, and album covers on January 2nd, 2018. The group then released their individual character teasers a week prior to their debut, from January 3rd to January 6th, 2018. The group also revealed their highlight medley on January 7th, 2018.

Hoyoung himself showed off his laidback charm through the release of individual photo teasers, with him wearing a pink jacket and grinning at the camera in a Leica-style picture.

This boy group finally made their official debut on January 9th, 2019, with their first album titled Veri-us and a title track “Ring Ring Ring”.

Music Video

On January 7th, 2019, the teaser for their debut MV was released. From the 30-second teaser, fans can feel the bright and full of dream vibe of the song, with the song being said to be about wanting someone to call you every day. The colorful outfits of the boys also remind us of the boy group SEVENTEEN with the same youth aura.

And same with the individual and group teasers, the MV also was directed with the same Leica and Polaroid-style aesthetic. The boys look like skater boys who dance in the clouds and roam on the streets with their vibrant aura. Not only shot outdoor, but the group also shot scenes indoors with bright neon lights shining on them.

As the group debuted with a bright, cheery song, the comment section was also filled with praises and excitement about this VIXX’s juniors.

The group performed their debut song on Mnet’s M! Countdown on January 10th, 2019, a day after its release. Same with the energetic MV, the group displayed the same vigor in their debut stage with the same choreography and professionalism that they displayed in the performance MV. Each member also performed the song with a wide smile on his face, thus making the viewers’ hearts flutter.

VERIVERY Comeback In 2020 With Face Us

The news of VERIVERY newest and 5th album titled FACE US was confirmed by Jellyfish Entertainment on September 28th, 2020, when they officially announced it through their official Twitter account. With the scheduler that they released, they stated that they would start releasing the individual teaser photos and videos from October 2nd, 2020. The album was said to be released on October 13th, 2020.

Hoyoung’s character teaser, along with Deong-heon’s became the first ones to be released. In the photo teasers, Hoyoung represented the two primary colors (red and blue) as he posed while staring into the camera. There’s an aloof and mysterious aura that can be felt in his character. It seems that the two colors were meant to represent the ‘hot and cold’ vibe.

Aside from the teaser photos, Jellyfish Entertainment also released individual teaser videos. We can see from the video that Hoyoung began with blindfolded eyes but soon he removed the blindfold and stared deeply into the camera.

After dropping several more teasers, the group finally released the album and MV on October 13th, 2020. Their 5th album is filled with 6 new songs, some of which are produced and written by the members themselves. Their tracklist includes songs like: “G.B.T.B (Go Beyond The Barrier)”, “My Face”, “Hold Me Tight”, “Get Outta My Way”, “Decreased Gravity” (literal translation), and “Thank You, NEXT?” which was exclusive on the CD.

Quoted from Allkpop, the members also sat down in an interview explaining their goals and hopes for the new album.

“I think everyone is having a hard time these days, and I hope our VERRERs can cheer up together and overcome difficult situations with hope through this powerful, vibrant title track, ‘G.B.T.B.’,” Hoyoung explained when they were asked about the hope for the album.

He also explained the process behind the music-making, “Since the title track has been more intense than the previous music, and this kind of concept is new, it was a little awkward to practice my facial expressions.”

And lastly, he concluded with a warm personal message for fans.

“Even though we cannot meet our fans due to a hard circumstance, we think we are always with you guys. I hope our fans cheer up watching us, VERIVERY, and please keep an eye on us,” he said.
