Twice debuted in October 2015 and it only took less than a month to release their fandom name. JYP Entertainment released this official statement on November 4, 2015. Just like in English word, twice come after once. This also refers to: if you love Twice once, they will return the love twice.

2013
Before debuting Twice, JYP Entertainment was rumored to debut a new girl group called 6Mix in 2013. This rumor was followed by other rumored new groups of JYP Entertainment which are 5Live (now Day6) and Got7. However, compared to them 6mix’s line-up was still unclear. The rumored line-up from 6Mix is Nayeon, Jeongyeon, Jisoo, Sana, Lena, and Minyoung.
2014
There’s a rumor that JYP Entertainment delayed the debut of 6Mix which was supposed to debut after Got7 in 2014. The rumored reason was because of the Sewol Fery incident in April 2014. At that time, the whole nation was mourning because of the incident. So, JYP Entertainment delayed the debut of 6Mix that was being prepared at the same time.
2015
In April 2015, JYP Entertainment announced to collaborate with Mnet to create a survival show called Sixteen. The survival show was participated by 16 female trainees of JYP Entertainment, from 13 to 20 years old. The trainees were also from various countries such as Korea, Japan, Thailand, Canada, etc.
Trainees from the rumored line-up of 6Mix also joined the show. It’s Jisoo who changed her name to Jihyo, Jeongyeon, Nayeon, Sana, and Minyoung. However, Lena was rumored to left the agency before Sixteen started. The rest of the participants are Eunsuh, Chaeryeong, Natty, Momo, Chaeyoung, Dahyun, Tzuyu, Mina, Jiwon, Somi, and Chaeyeon.
Sixteen allowed audiences at home to vote for their favorite participants, besides evaluation from Park Jin-young.
The first episode aired on May 5, 2015, and aired its final episode on July 7, 2015. On the final episode which is also their 10th episode, JYP announced the final line-up of JYP Entertainment’s new girl group, Twice.
The original lineup was only 7 members, Nayeon, Jeonyeon, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun, and Chaeyoung. Tzuyu was added based on voting from audiences. While Momo who has been eliminated in the fourth mission was added based on the decision of A&R Team and Trainers.
