Every idol or artist has their own fans, and even have names for their fandoms so everyone will know their community. Fans have a really big influence on their idols. K-pop, in particular, is no stranger to famous idols having fandoms or fan communities who always support their careers. Even though some fans are fanatics, it can’t be denied that idols need their fandoms.
Each Fandom name has its own meaning. Usually, a Fandom will hold special events to get to know each other throughout their Fandom. When they meet, they will always share stories about their idols and their same likes. Sometimes fellow fans have differences of opinion that cause fights, but the issues must be resolved so that the fandom stays together for its idol. Who doesn’t know about EXO? They have many fans from around the world, especial among women. SM Entertainment has released the fan club and every fan can register to become an official EXO-L. On August 5, 2014, EXO announced the name for their Fandom, “EXO-L”. EXO-L stands for EXO-LOVE “L”, EXO-L is a name made by EXO’s Leader, Suho, because L holds a position in the middle of the alphabet, between K and M, which also means that EXO K + EXO L + EXO M : 1 matches their slogan “WE ARE ONE”. Baekhyun said ” L is the alphabet letter between K and M. That means they (EXO-L) are people that we must put in the middle and protect “. As its meaning, EXO-L are expected to always be in their career journey. The fandom color is Cosmic Latte.
BIGBANG – VIP
V.I.P means Very Important People, and that’s exactly what BIG BANG thinks. BIG BANG really loves their fans, and consider them to be like family. Even though BIG BANG is currently experiencing some issues, that does not make their fans hate them. VIPs use either yellow crown light-sticks or black and white handkerchiefs.
BlackPink – BLINK
According to black-pink.fandom.com, BLINK is a combination of the words black and pink. Blackpink members gave their fandom this name, on January 16, 2017, BlackPink announced the name Blink via Instagram. Their fans were very happy that their idols had released the official name of fandom. Blackpink has two official clubs, namely one in Korea and one in Japan. The fandom color is pink.
Super Junior – ELF
On July 2, 2006, E.L.F. was announced as the name of Super Junior’s fan club. Super Junior decided on the name ELF (Everlasting Friends) as the name for the group’s fans around the world. The name ELF, itself, came from Super Junior’s leader, Leeteuk. The word ELF has a meaning related to fairies. Because of this, Super Junior fans have the special nickname fairy. At each Super Junior concert, the venue will be filled with blue fairies that form a blue ocean Sapphire or blue ocean.
BTS – ARMY
ARMY stands for Adorable Representative MC, which is related to the military and the idea of body armor. All their fans will always be with BTS, and fans will support and protect each other. A.R.M.Y became BTS’s official fan club name on July 9, 2013. The fandom color is Silver Gray.
SNSD – SONE
SONE, which, in Korean, means wish or hope, has a lot of meanings for Girls’ Generation or SNSD. The word SONE came from the Korean word SOWON. Every fan has the same hopes as SNSD, and believes that a hope can be realized if they work hard to make it happen.
WINNER – Inner Circle
Inner Circle, which means circle, fans will be close and become a family. the Korean word for inner circle, 내부 원 (naebuwon), sounds like the English phrase Number One. WINNER said their fans are also winners. This is often abbreviated as Inseos, IC’s or Incles . The fandom color is Nebula Blue.
Red Velvet – Reveluv
The ReVe in the fandom name stands for Red and Velvet. It also means dream in French, meaning ReVeluvs (Red Velvet Luv) make Red Velvet dreams come true. The fandom color is Pastel Coral.
Pentagon – Universe
On March 7, 2017, PENTAGON announced that the name of their fan club was UNIVERSE. The group explained that the name came from “You are my universe”, which is a line from the lyrics of one of the group’s songs. This fandom name was taken from their mini album. The fandom color is UniNavy.
VIXX – Starlight
Their fans’s starlight is like a sparkling and shining star, which will always shine even in the dark. Starlight will continue with VIXX for all time. the fandom colors are navy and shining gold.
MONSTA X – Monbebe
Mon Bebe, or our baby, Monbebe means my baby in French. Minhyuk explained the meaning behind the name of the official fan club Mon Bebe. He said, “The hidden meaning of our Monsta X team name is My Star”. The fandom colors are Pantone’s 221C, 2405 C, and Dark blue C.
TWICE – ONCE
Once, then TWICE. If you love us even once, we’ll repay you with TWICE our love. It’s difficult to connect with people, and getting people to love is the most difficult of all. We’ll work hard so that you can look at us once, and fall in love with us TWICE. The fandom colors are Apricot & Neon Magenta.
Got7 – iGot7
The number 7 is a lucky number and is also the number of members in the group. “I GOT7” means fans have “gotten” GOT7 . A fans and GOT7 will continue to be together and will always be lucky. The fan colors are Green and White.
SHINee – Shawol
This comes from the combination of the words “SHINee” and “world”. Shawol is an abbreviation of the official name given to fans by SHINee, based on the homanul romanized for SHINee World: sha-i-ni + wol-deu. The fandom color is Pearlized Sky Blue.
SEVENTEEN – Carat
The term carat refers to the measurement of shiny metal, they chose the name rust as their fandom name because of their symbol. fans will always sparkle like diamonds. The fan colors are Rose Quartz and Serenity.
