In 1990, Han Soo-yeon with her mother and sister moved to Budapest, Hungary, because her mother studied classical singing at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music. She had her primary education in Budapest and learned how to speak Hungarian. Because of that, she is able to speak Hungarian fluently. In 1998, her family moved back to South Korea. She pursued her higher degree of education at Sungkyunkwan University, majoring in Film Studies.

The story revolves around a pair of identical twins who have their lives turned upside down when one of them is charged with a crime. In 2008, she acted as a supporting role in the movie Do Re Mi Fa So La Ti Do (2008). Her co-stars were Jang Geun-suk, Cha Ye-ryun, and Jung Eui-chul.
Han Soo-yeon had her first major role in an independent film titled Our Fantastic 21st Century (2009). She acted as Soo-young, an aimless woman in her early 20s who lives with her boyfriend Sang-il (Shin Hyun-ho). Her boyfriend runs off with her money and her dishonest act at work comes to light. With no one to turn to, she resorts to a loan shark she had met at the superstore. The movie was played at the 2009 Pusan International Film Festival, the 2010 Berlin International Film Festival, and the 2010 Hong Kong International Film Festival.
