The Ever-Changing Girl Group, CLC!

Crystal Clear, better known by the acronym CLC (씨엘씨), is a South Korean girl-group under Cube Entertainment, that made its debut in 2015. The group consists of seven members: Seung-hee, Yu-jin, Seung-yeon, Sorn, Ye-eun, Elkie, and Eun-bin. CLC originally had five members, with two members, Elkie and Eunbin, added to the group in February, 2016. CLC made their official debut on March 19, 2015, with their first EP titled First Love.

To date, CLC has released eight Korean EPs and two Japanese EPs. During their career, CLC has gone through several album concepts and transformations. Are you curious about their ever-changing styles? Take a look!

Pre-Debut CLC

CLC was originally debuted with five members: Seung-hee, Yu-jin, Seung-yeon, Sorn and Ye-eun. They made their first appearance as back-up dancers for singer G.NA back in 2014. Not only that, but they also modeled for the uniform brand Smart, featuring in a promotional music video with the boy groups GOT7 and B1A4. CLC also appeared on BTOB’s music video for the song Love Confession.

Before their official debut, the group began to gain publicity through street performances that raised money for children with disabilities. These featured on their online reality show, CLC’s Love Chemistry.

2015

CLC debuted in March, 2015, with a five-member lineup. They released their first EP, titled First Love, including the lead single, Pepe, on March 19th, 2015. Pepe is a retro dance song written by Duble Sidekick and Yang Geng. Part of the song’s choreography was put together by singer Rain.

CLC had a debut showcase which was held the day before their music show debut at the Acts Hotel in Seoul, where they performed their debut song for the first time. After that, they made their music show performance debut on Mnet’s M! Countdown.

On April 16, CLC released a digital single, Eighteen, which can be best described as a song about teenage love influenced by 1960s/’70s Motown and 1980s synthpop. They began promotions for the single the following day on KBS2’s Music BankTheir second EP, Question, was released on May 28. Its lead single, Curious (Like), was first performed on M! Countdown.

On October 10–11, the group held their first overseas promotional tour in Malaysia, entitled “First Love Promo Tour in Malaysia”. For the tour, Universal Music Malaysia released an “Asia Special Edition” version of Question. The special version included tracks from First Love and Question, as well as the digital single Eighteen.

CLC’s debut and second mini album were filled with an innocent and cutesy look.
