Lee Jun-ki as Park Yoon-kang in Gunman in Joseon
Lee Jun-ki is back with an action-historical drama in KBS’s Gunman in Joseon, which aired from June to September, 2014. This time, he played as Park Yoon-kang, who is living an indolent life, drinking and flirting at the gisaeng house, because of an estrangement from his father.
Luckily, this lazy man was skilled with the sword, as his father is a legendary swordsman. After his father was killed and falsely branded as a traitor, he and his sister were punished, as the sister was enslaved and some people tried to murder him. When Park Yoon-kang was saved from his attempted murder, he came back to Joseon and changed his sword into a gun to take his revenge, but ended up becoming a hero for the people.
Because of his amazing role and also the undoubted quality of his acting, he won Outstanding Korean Actor in the Seoul International Drama Awards and three awards in the KBS Drama Awards.
Lee Jun-ki as Kim Sung-yol in Scholar Who Walks the Night
Scholar Who Walks The Night is a South Korean drama adapted from a manhwa with the same title, written by Jo Joo-hee and drawn by Han Seung-hee. The drama was aired by MBC from July 8 until September 10, 2015, for 20 episodes. In this drama, Lee Jun-ki came back with another epic role, that of the scholar and vampire, Kim Seung-yeol.
The drama is about the daughter of a nobleman Jo Yang-sun (starred by Lee Yu-bi), who was bankrupt because her father was framed as a traitor. In order to fulfill her daily life needs, she began to dress as a man and sell books in street. She met a handsome scholar who walks in the night and works in Hongmungwan, named Kim Sung-yeol. She then finds that he is a vampire who couldn’t move on from his first love for a long time, especially when he met the first love’s doppleganger in Choi Hye-ryung, a daughter of an estranged nobleman.
With his role in this drama, the actor was nominated as Top Excellence Awards and Top 10 Awards in the MBC Drama Awards.
Lee Jun-ki as Wang So in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo
This might be the most memorable and favorite drama all the time by the viewers, as the it was the most expensive Korean drama ever sold. Not only because it’s Lee Jun-ki’s, the drama also featured the famous soloist and actress IU, as the opponent star with Lee Jun-ki. The drama was aired on SBS from August 26 until November 1, 2016. The series was adapted from the Chinese novel Bu Bu Jing Xin by Tong Hua.
The story is about a 25-year-old 21st century woman, Go Ha-jin (played by IU), who traveled back in time to the Goryeo dynasty during a total solar eclipse. She wakes up in the body of Hae Soo’s, a royal princess of the ruling Wang family. She then falls in love with Wang Soo (played by Lee Jun-ki), the fearsome 4th prince who hides behind a mask and is titled the “wolf dog”. Hae Soo is unwittingly caught between the princes as they fight for the throne.
Lee Jun-ki’s role in this drama led to him winning four of the five nominations received at various award events. It’s just not Lee Jun-ki if he’s not being nominated or winning an award.
