Choi Woo-Shik’s Drama List
1. The Duo – 2011
The Duo is the inaugural drama Choi Woo-Shik debuted in as an actor. The drama is written by Kim Woon-Gyung and directed by Im Tae-Woo and Kim Keun-Hong with 32 episodes aired by MBC. Woo-Shik played the supporting role of the young version of Gwi-Dong which was later cast by Lee Sang-Yoon.
The drama is about two boys born on the same day, Chun-Dong, played by Chun Jung Myung, and Gwi-Dong. Chun-Dong was borne by a maid named Mak-Soon in a beggar village, while Gwi-Dong was borne by the wife of a wealthy official named Kim Jae-Ik.
Kim’s wife died while giving birth to Gwi-Dong, so her family looked for a mother for Gwi-Dong. Finally, Mak-Soon, played by Yoon Yoo Sun, became the foster mother and left her son in the beggar village. Chun-Dong, left by his mother, cried every day because of hunger. Unable to bear the sight any longer, Seo-Dol takes Chun-Dong to meet his mother. Mak-Soon, who can not bear to see her biological child suffering, eventually exchange Chun-Dong and Gwi-Dong.
2. Living in Style – 2011
After succeeding with his debut on The Duo, Woo-Shik again participated in a comedy-drama in the same year, Love in Style. The drama was written by Moon Young-Nam and directed by Hong Chang-Wook with a total of 51 episodes that were aired by SBS. Woo-Shik plays Na Joo-Ra.
Living in Style is about three families and their intersecting attempts to make it in the world.
In the first family, Mo Sung-Ae, played by Lee Hyo-Chun, struggles to overcome the difficult hand-life of her two children.
The Choi family is an affluent family dealing with the recent loss of their patriarch and a mother trying to retain control of her late husband’s assets from her stepson. Choi Shin-Hyung, played by Ki Tae-Young, her biological son and chosen successor, is forced to choose between fulfilling his mother’s wishes and losing it all for her longtime girlfriend.
The Jo family is a middle-class family led by patriarch Jo Yong-Pal, played by No Ju-Hyeon, a building security guard who loves Mo Sung-Ae. His jobless, lazy son, Jo Jin-Sang, and his daughter-in-law Lee Hae-shim add an endearing but comical flavor to the group.
These three families struggle to overcome their problems and live in style.
3. Shut Up Family – 2012
In 2012, Woo-Shik re-participates in a KBS-themed drama. Shut Up Family has 120 episodes written by Seo Jae-Won and directed by Jo Joon-Hee and Choi Sung-Bum. Woo-Shik plays the lead role of Yeol Woo-Bong. Woo-Shik along with former members of SISTAR Kim Dasom and Park Seo-Joon managed to make this drama have high ratings every episode.
This drama tells the story of Woo Shin Hye, played by Hwang Shin-Hye. She is a widow who lives with her mother and two daughters. Yeol Seok-Hwan, played by Ahn Suk-Hwan, is a widower who lives with his mother-in-law and his three children. Both of these families have completely different personalities, but Woo Shin-Hye and Yeol Seok-Hwan fall in love and then get married. Since their marriage, the two families live under the same roof. Although they have conflicts because of their differences, they become real families.
4. TEN Season 1 and 2 – 2013
After participating in dramas with romance and comedy, in 2013, Woo-Shik decided to participate in a drama with crime, mystery, and thrill that was aired by OCN. The drama, titled TEN, was written and directed by Lee Jae-Gon and Lee Seung-Young with 12 episodes. Woo-Shik plays Park Min-Ho, the new detective.
This drama is about Ji-Hoon, played by Joo Sang-Wook, who is the leader of the Special Affairs Team TEN, suddenly disappearing. The other members of Team TEN, Do-Sik, played by Kim Sang-Ho, and Ye-Ri try to uncover Ji-Hoon’s intentions. The members of TEN chase after the serial killer known as Murderer F. As they get closer to Murderer F, they are in for an unexpected shock.
5. You’re All Surrounded – 2014
In the drama You’re All Surrounded, Choi Woo-Shik plays himself as a cameo. Even if only a cameo, Woo-Shik was still able to steal the attention of netizens with his laudable acting. The drama was written and directed by Lee Jung-Sun and Yu In-Sik and was aired by SBS for as many as 20 episodes. Lee Seung-Gi, Ahn Jae-Hyun, Park Seo-joon, Goo-Ahra, and Cha Seung-Won are also in this drama.
This drama is about Eun Dae-Gu, played by Lee Seung-Gi, Uh Soo-Sun, played by Go Ah-Ra, Park Tae Il, played by Park Jung-Min, otherwise known as the P4, who are the new recruits in the violent crime unit at Gangnam Police Station. These rookies are neither enthusiastic nor passionate about their new jobs and have joined the crime squad for varying reasons. They are lead by an erratic and hot-headed Seo Pan Suk, played by Cha Seung-Won, who wants nothing more than to wash his hands of the incompetent new recruits. This drama follows the journey of these young cops as they fumble, learn, fall in love and find their way to being able to trust the citizens.
6. Ho-Goo’s Love (2015)
In 2015, Woo-Shik participated as the lead actor in a drama lifted from a webtoon entitled Ho-Goo’s Love. The drama was written and directed by Yoo Hyun-Sook, Yoon Nan-Joong, and Pyo Min-Soo, and it was aired by tvN with 16 episodes. Choi Woo-Shik plays Kang Ho-Gu along with former member of AFTERSCHOOL Uee.
This drama is about Ho-Gu who has never dated in his life. He runs into his first love Do-Hee, played by Uee. She is a member of the national team and has a burning desire to win. She also talks like one of the guys. After Ho-Gu meets Do-Hee again, he’s involved in a complicated romantic relationship and a dangerous friendship.
7. My Fantastic Funeral – 2015
This drama is directed by Park Sun-Ho and written by Kim Eun-Hyang and was aired by SBS with only 2 episodes. This is Woo-Shik’s first time as the main character in a drama with very few episodes. Woo-Shik plays Park Dong-Soo.
This drama tells the story of Jang Mi-soo, played by Kyung Soo-Jin, accepting that she is dying soon of a brain tumor and starting to prepare for her funeral. One day, she meets her schoolmate Park Dong-Soo who once declared his love for her but was rejected. When Mi-Soo realizes she is in love with Dong-Soo, she does not want to die. However, Dong-Soo, who once had a heart transplant, will die soon unless he gets a new heart.
8. Fight for My Way – 2017
Fight For My Way is one of my favorite dramas in 2017. Choi Woo-Shik participates, even though only as a supporting role. The drama was written and directed by Im Sang-Choon and Lee Na-Jeong. The drama has 16 episodes and was aired by KBS2, and Woo-Shik plays Park Moo-Bin.
This drama tells a story about Ko Dong-Man, played by Park Seo-joon, who, since high school, has been practicing Taekwondo. But, suddenly, Dong-Man surrenders his dream to become a Taekwondo athlete and works to become an environmental worker. Meanwhile, Choi Ae-Ra, played by Kim Ji-Won, is a woman who, since childhood, has dreamed to become a news anchor. But, now, Ae-Ra works in a department store at the information desk. Dong-Man and Ae-Ra are very close friends. Because of their closeness, they end up liking each other.
