Full Information about T.O.P and G-Dragon’s Scandal
Who doesn’t know G-Dragon? He is the leader of the 12-year-old boy band, BIGBANG. The group is managed by the giant company YG Entertainment. They debuted in 2006 with 5 members, G-Dragon, T.O.P, Tae-yang, Dae-sung, and Seung-ri. G-Dragon himself also made a solo debut in 2009 with Heartbreaker. He is known for his amazing skill in singing, rapping, dancing, and composing music. He has even been labeled as the best idol-composer in the industry.
The bigger someone’s name is, the more problems it causes. G-Dragon is no exception. After being involved in plagiarism scandals, he got himself involved in a marijuana scandal. The worst of his scandals ever. Let’s have a little flashback of this scandal.

After the scandal his bandmate, Dae-sung, was involved in, G-Dragon got involved in a marijuana scandal back in 2011. After a party in Japan, he admitted that someone gave him a cigarette (we all know he smokes). After taking a few puffs, he noticed the cigarette was weird so he threw it away. That’s how the scandal started.
G-Dragon did a test to check if he was positive with marijuana. From the urine test, he got a negative result. However, there was a weak positive after he did a hair test. Even though the result was a weak positive, because he only had a little bit of the cigarette, the news instantly spread and caused a big mess among fans and anti-fans. Many of his fans kept supporting him, many left the fandom, and the same thing happened with the non-fans.
G-Dragon’s Statement

A year after the scandal, G-Dragon was invited to SBS Healing Camp and the hosts there were asking about the scandal. Here is what G-Dragon said regarding the question:
“At the time, I took a urine drug test, as well as a hair follicle drug test. When I received the results, I was shocked and I felt like the results were unfair. I didn’t believe it at first, because I knew I didn’t do it, but the results stated otherwise. I didn’t know where things had started to go wrong.
There was something I felt that could have contributed to the results, and it was weighing on my heart so I talked about it during the investigation. After our concert in Japan (May 2011), we had an after-party where a lot of people were in attendance. I think the fact that I received a cigarette from a stranger there became the source of the problem. That incident started to be closely investigated, and it just came out.
We hosted the party ourselves, and we were in a really good mood because the concert went really well. At that moment, I had a lot to drink, and my managers were doing their own thing, and I was alone. I went to the restroom, and someone offered me a cigarette. I thought it would be rude to refuse, so I accepted it without giving it a second thought.”
One of the hosts, Lee Kyung-kyu, asked G-Dragon how he couldn’t differentiate the smell between ordinary cigarette and marijuana and G-Dragon said that he was under the influence of alcohol and never smelled marijuana before so he couldn’t really tell. However, he then realized that the cigarette given to him was a very strong one so he threw it away. Once again the host asked if he was lying or not, he said he was not and if he was lying, he wouldn’t be able to face the public.

G-Dragon is not the only one involved in a marijuana-related scandal. In 2017, his bandmate T.O.P also got involved in a marijuana scandal. As the leader of the group, G-Dragon apologized for T.O.P’s marijuana scandal. He didn’t say anything but clarified his scandal years ago. Here is G-Dragon’s apology for T.O.P’s marijuana scandal:
“We are sorry for causing you such concerns and disappointment. We will make sure this does not happen again. Hope you will continue to support us.”
Even so, T.O.P also apologized on YG’s official blog with a picture of his hand-written letter. Here is T.O.P’s apology:
“This is Choi Seung Hyun.
First of all, I would like to sincerely apologize for causing great disappointment and disturbance with huge wrongdoing.
I am too ashamed of myself to stand in front of everyone for an apology. I have no excuses and feel very regretful and fearful, so I am carefully writing down these feelings as words.
Our members, my agency, the public… My fans who have supported me, and my family, I have left an irreparable scar in everyone’s hearts, so I believe I deserve to be punished.
My heart aches, and I am also very ashamed of myself. I will meditate and reflect on [my mistake] again and again.
I will never make such an irresponsible mistake again. Once more, I apologize for not being able to apologize to everyone personally. I will deeply repent my wrongdoing.
I am very ashamed of myself.
I apologize.”
Now that the problems have been all cleared, T.O.P, G-Dragon, Tae-yang, and Dae-sung are currently serving in the military service while the youngest member, Seung-ri, is busy with his solo career. Can’t wait for the king’s comeback with another masterpiece!
