On April 5, 2017, Gary posted on his Instagram, saying, “I tied the knot with someone I love today. We didn’t have a wedding ceremony. We had a quiet agreement ceremony between just the two of us. My wife is not a celebrity, but she moved my soul in an instant. I know this marriage announcement is surprising news but please give us your blessings! We will live happily forever. From Kang Gary.”
After that, he revealed his wife for the first time on October 14, 2018, while they were on a trip to Guam. The two took turns filming footage of their vacation.
While wandering around a gift shop, Gary remarked, “Koreans over there, Koreans over here. I think there are more Koreans than in LA’s Koreatown. Guam is like second Korea.” He met a few Korean kids and posed for pictures with them, saying jokingly, “I’m an ahjussi who used to be a celebrity.”

On June 9, 2018, Gary uploaded this photo of his seven-month-old son, on his personal Instagram account. In the picture, Gary sits lovingly alongside his son and they have their heads turned sideways in the same direction, something or someone surely has their joint attention!
On July 11, 2018, Gary shared the photo below, which shows him and his son having fun in a pool, although the photo is not captioned, it seems like the former Leessang member has been kept very busy being a new father. Gary opened his YouTube channel, “KANG GARY”, on August 28, 2018, and gained over 10,000 subscribers in two weeks. From events in Taiwan to studying Chinese, he has steadily been sharing his daily life. Some fans have begun to speculate that he is making his way as a YouTube content creator.
On September 17, 2018, he uploaded a video on his channel, where he answered a fan’s question about it. He commented, “I’m not becoming a YouTuber, but I’m doing it for fun. I think there’s a whole world to YouTube. It’s cool. It has its own world.”
Gary also shared, “Surprisingly, I have the most subscribers from Vietnam, then Malaysia. I have subscribers from Vietnam, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Taiwan, so I think I’ll have to study English and speak in English.” He has also inserted English subtitles in his videos for fans. He added, “There’s no end to learning, and there’s no end to childcare either.”
