Katie Kim was trying to further her career in South Korea by joining K-Pop Star 4, the Korean reality competition show, and ended up winning the season. She won the prize and option to sign with YG Entertainment, the agency which manages several popular K-Pop stars such as BLACKPINK, WINNER, iKon, and BigBang.
K-Pop Star 4 was broadcast on SBS starting on November 23, 2014, airing Sunday evenings. The contest started by accepting applications throughout South Korea, Hong Kong, the United States, Australia, and Singapore until September 2014. The judges during during the show’s fourth season were Yang Hyun-suk, YG Entertainment CEO, Park Jin-young, JYP Entertainment’s Executive producer, and You Hee-yeol, the Antenna Music CEO.

History with YG Entertainment
Katie Kim became a winner in K-Pop Star on April 12, 2015. She debuted with YG Entertainment. Under YG, she showed interest in the American music style and she worked for three years, participating songwriting camps in the United Stated then bringing her songs for her debut album. Unfortunately, the solo album was not given any growth and was overly delayed.
Debut as Soloist under AXIS Entertainment
The founder of AXIS and ex-creative director of YG, who is also producer SJ “SINXITY” Shin, looked into Katie’s album, and became interested in making her the first artist to debut in AXIS. Katie Kim decided to leave YG Entertainment after consulting with YG CEO, Yang Hyun-suk in May 2018, but YG Entertainment would still help in distributing the album.
She was able to create more expressive music and have more control over her own creative under the new label, AXIS. Cited from the Hollywood Reporter, Katie admitted that, “With AXIS, they just allow me to do whatever I want. It’s a luxury, really.” So, on May 28th, Katie Kim finally released her concept teaser photos called ‘THE BIRTH of KATIE’ on the AXIS label’s website.
Next, she launched her solo song from the album “Log” on May 22, 2019. Her debut song was called “Remember,” and received 10 million views which uploaded in YG official YouTube channel. With the high appreciation of her first song, Katie Kim worked with AWAL on her album distribution.
