Kiss&Cry Former Member And Disband News
In September 2014, a few months after their debut, Kiss&Cry had to face an ultimate nightmare: group disbandment. Panic swept the online community and fans as people tried to figure out what was true and what wasn’t. Usually, disbandment is clearly expressed by the company, or a group just goes for so long without promoting that they get forgotten by the public. That wasn’t the case with Kiss&Cry. In this case, member Haena announced the decision on national television by herself and stated that the group was disbanding.
Haena, who appeared on Mnet’s Super Star K6 as a contestant in September 2014 was the one who revealed this information belatedly.
She said, “There wasn’t as much response to Kiss&Cry compared to expectations, so it was suddenly disbanded against our intentions. I’m trying not to be sad. Although we were unable to become famous and disbanded, I hope that we will come together again,” and grew teary before then wowing the judges with her cover of Ailee’s “Singing Got Better.”
Prior, the fact that Haena was having solo activities in the first place is unusual for a rookie group which only has a few month’s careers. So, when she appeared as a contestant on the singing show Superstar K6 as a solo artist, any experienced K-Pop fan would be having their alarm bells set off. She confirmed the viewers’ worries by saying that Kiss&Cry had, in fact, split-up when asked by MC Yoon Jong-shin. Of course, this way of breaking such big news was shocking, and somewhat unprofessional, especially in an industry as delicate as K-Pop.
Before this incident, there hadn’t been any other information about the group splitting. They were a crowd favorite as far as female rookie groups go, and they had the talent to back it up. Although they weren’t promoting currently, it hadn’t been that long since their last activities, and the company hadn’t made a peep about inner turmoil. Haena’s statement came out of the blue and sent a big shock over fans.
Later, the entertainment company in charge of Kiss&Cry, Winning Insight M, issued their own statement contradicting Haena. Their official word on the matter is that the group is not disbanding but simply going through some changes. Those two statements are the polar opposite. Fans are confused about who to believe. They were confused about whether the group disbanded or only taking a break.
One thing to notice is that the two parties gave a similar statement regarding the fact that Haena was out of the group. The company also confirmed that she did not renew her contract with them, and she made it clear that she is going to pursue her solo options in the industry. It is also clear that the group isn’t going to be promoting in the foreseeable future, although both Haena and Winning Insight made it seem like the group may be back together someday.
Nobody also seemed to know about what would happen to the other members. It would appear that they are staying with the company for the time being. There was no word that any of them terminated their contracts like Haena did, but it would seem that they will be focusing on being solo artists for now since Dia posted on her Facebook making comments to that effect. Soyumi and Bohye also didn’t say anything, but it is assumed that they are struggling with all of this suddenly becoming public.
Of course, later we would found out that the group had to, indeed, disband.
