NCT’s Jisung
NCT’s Jisung is one of Korean male idol who was born in 2002. He is still young and it would be a little bit weird if there is someone called him “oppa” between his fans who much older than him.
But Jisung once said that he really like to be called “oppa” because he likes the “oppa” word. Many fans found it adorable and cute moment.
“He is my Oppa Iām a year younger! so much love to Jisungie-Oppa!” said one of his fans.

NCT’s Jaemin
NCT’s Jaemin was born in 2000. It means that the same reason as Jisung was come to him. It would being heard a little bit weird if Jaemin is being called “oppa” by his older fans.
But it is the same as Jisung. Jaemin loves to be called “oppa” by his fans. His reason is quite same as Jisung, too.

Is It Okay For Older Fans Calling Younger Idols “Oppa”?
Many pros and cons that came with this issue. Because the word “oppa”, “noona”, “hyung” and “unni” is being used to respect each other in a way to show who is the older one and who is the younger one. As we already said before, this is a very important thing to do in Korea as it shows respect, and the culture in Korea in terms of respect is very serious.
Some of the people who discussed it said, “This is something that’s also a bit more messed up, whether you’re of the Korean culture or you aren’t. When the idol is younger than you, you should not be calling them oppa, noona, unnie, or hyung. Those titles are used when they are older then you for respect, when they are younger than you you are once again demeaning the titles, in many cases using it in a weird way. If you don’t know how old the idol is yet you know you’re around the same age, you could just call them “-ssi” or you could just ask them. If you know you are going to be meeting these idols like a fan meet type of situation, please look into the ages if you want to call them by a title to respect them in their culture, please don’t be calling them all by a title especially when it’s clear to them that you are in fact older.”
Jungkook’s incident is one of the prove that being called “oppa” by the one is older can seems too weird. This shows that idols can clearly be uncomfortable with the situation when the title is used improperly, whether you’re native Korean or not.
It would be nice if fans could respect in what their idol want. If they let you to called them “oppa”, “noona” and the others, show it as the way you respect your idol. But if the idols couldn’t see it as something that didn’t bothering them, as a fans with full of respectful, you should stop called them by that.
That was all about the topic that we provide you today. Remember to always respect each other. You should never ever be disrespecting a culture or idol by using titles in disgusting and sexualizing ways as it doesn’t only make the K-Pop community or anyone that has to come across it uncomfortable, but the idols as well and they could also feel disrespected. And then, we will see you again on the next article.
