In Show Champion, people could see a lot of great performances from many idols. Moreover, they could also choose one of their idols and support them to be the winner through a vote. Every month there was a different winner, and choosing the month’s winner was one of the most anticipating moments by both the idols and the fans of the show as well. And here is the compilation of the winners of the 2018 Show Champion!
About The Show
Before we talk about the 2018 Show Champion‘s winners, let’s start with some basic information about Show Champion first! What was the show about? Show Champion was famously known as one of the popular music programs in South Korea, which was also a mixture of a music show and a variety show including performances and interviews as well.
Show Champion was providing the most popular singles, the hottest issues, and the best rookies every week. And also, Show Champion had a specific voting system. The winners were evaluated through a system of digital selling, album selling, netizens voting, professional music judges, genie pre-voting, idol champ pre-voting, and also from MBC’s Music broadcast point. As time went by, the winning criteria were increasingly diverse and growing.
The show was hosted by comedian Kim Shin-young, but also on some occasions, there would be guest hosts as well. Not only that, but there were also various types of winners of Show Champion, such as Issue Champion, Rookie Champion, Rookie Survival, and many more!
Oh My Girl – Secret Garden
First, in January, we have Oh My Girl with the single “Secret Garden!” The single was included in Oh My Girl’s fifth extended play Secret Garden in January 2018 and became the winner of the January 2018 Show Champion as well!
“Secret Garden” has a deep meaning in relation to the overall concept of Oh My Girl, about encouragement and not giving up on your dreams. You simply have to pursue your dreams, and Oh My Girl members are clearly encouraging you to do so with their song “Secret Garden.” Moreover, listening to the single can make you imagine the vibes of a fantasy land!
Meanwhile, in the music video of “Secret Garden,” Oh My Girl members are radiant in pastel colors and emitting dreamlike vibes. And just like the title “Secret Garden,” there’s also a hint of hidden flowers within that.
On one of their encore stages, Oh My Girl members appeared on the stage all dressed in the same outfit, a kind of printed lace dress with a printed accent! They were looking effortlessly gorgeous during their dancing and singing performance of “Secret Garden!”

Red Velvet – Bad Boy
In the February 2018 issue of Show Champion, there was Red Velvet with “Bad Boy!” Basically, the Red Velvet comeback with the single “Bad Boy” was in January 2018. Through this comeback, Red Velvet provided the fans with a monochrome concept, just like we could see in the “Bad Boy” teaser as well. Not only that, but in “Bad Boy,” Red Velvet members were looking more mature and elegant, in the female spy concept.
The single “Bad Boy” was included in The Perfect Red Velvet, their second repackage album which was released on January 29th, 2018. From the translation of the lyrics, we can see that “Bad Boy” was about a love story between a girl and a bad boy. Even though he was a bad boy, he had something attractive that made the girl fall in love with his charm. Meanwhile, the girl also didn’t fall in love with him easily, and as a plot twist, the bad boy was under her love spell.
Red Velvet members who are usually looking both cute yet feminine, went for an elegant and sexy image this time with “Bad Boy.” With different vibes than usual, Red Velvet members were rocking the style of their new concept!

iKON – Love Scenario
Next one, there’s iKON with “Love Scenario!” The comeback single was released on January 25th, 2018, and turned into the winner of the March 2018 edition of Show Champion. The song was made by one of the ex-iKON members, Hanbin, and he explained that the song was inspired by the movie La La Land about the sweet kind of farewell.
“Love Scenario” tells the story of a relationship that has come to an end. Even though the relationship is over, it is simply a new beginning to start a brand new day. Mostly the sound of “Love Scenario” is kind of a cheerful song, but if you look right through the lyrics, there’s a hint of regret about a relationship within it.
In the music video, iKON show off a chill and free concept during the scenes. Each of the members of iKON is dancing and standing around the parking lot, and walking around a bus stop. But still, there’s a slight hint of a broken relationship within the music video even though it doesn’t really appear anywhere.
During one of the encore stages of iKON’s “Love Scenario,” the members appeared casually wearing simple and casual outfits, and with ear-catching vibes. iKON was performing “Love Scenario” happily while they were celebrating their win!

Wanna One – Boomerang
“Boomerang” was released on March 19th, 2018, from the album 0+1=1 (I Promise You). The single became the winner of the April 2018 issue of Show Champion. The song tells about how someone has fallen in love with someone else, but the love is kind of a ‘boomerang’ to themselves, and how they wished the love would be returned back to them just like a boomerang. The music is kind of electro-trap and dominant along with the powerful rhythm and beat.
Meanwhile, the concept of “Boomerang” from the music video is kind of a golden age concept, with the dominant black and gold colors. “Boomerang” was using the darkest concept so far from Wanna One, among all of their comebacks previously.
During one of Wanna One’s encore stages of “Boomerang,” they appeared with a semi-formal outfit composed of a blazer and shirt with a mixture of black and brown colors. While holding the trophy as winners, Wanna One members were celebrating the success of their “Boomerang” as a top rank single along with the crowds.

GFriend – Time for The Moon Night
Gfriend released one of their comebacks on April 30th, 2018, with the single “Time For The Night.” The single has a meaning of someone who was hesitant to show their feelings for someone else, and about how they were reminiscing some memories from the past.
Through the music video, we can see that GFriend members are pointing out the concept of a meaningful friendship, precious memories, reminiscing the good old days and also encouraging each other. Each of the members of GFriend is having her own activity and issues, and we can see how they overcome it.
In the May 2018 edition of Show Champion, GFriend successfully hit the top rank with the single “Time For The Night.” During one of their encore stages, they appeared wearing a mixture of black and grey outfits, sang along with the crowds while celebrating their success of “Time For The Night.”

BTOB – Only One For Me
In June 2018, BTOB made a comeback with the new EP This Is Us, along with the title track “Only One For Me.” It was released on June 18th, 2018, and marked as their first single in 2018.
“Only One For Me” is filled with rapping, rapid fire-flow with a great hook within. With the members’ soft voices and the mixture of strong raps within, “Only One For Me” has become one of the most ear-catching singles ever! For the concept of the “Only One For Me” music video, BTOB members are gathering together during a kind of party at a beach, while they are dancing with the city lights background and a bay party with luxurious stuff.
The single is about a confession of the feelings for someone, and how someone couldn’t live properly without her/or him because they were the only one they ever had. In their encore stage performance for “Only One For Me,” BTOB members amazed their fans with their simple yet fashionable style. They were dancing and singing along with the crowd while celebrating their success of “Only One For Me” as the top rank single of Show Champion.

TWICE – Dance The Night Away
TWICE released their comeback single in July 2018, “Dance The Night Away.” It was officially released on July 9th, 2018. The song’s meaning is about excitement feelings of love, and one of the ways to explore the feeling of happiness is through dance moves as well. Meanwhile, from the teaser of “Dance The Night Away,” we could see the concept where TWICE members were looking radiant with a simple outfit, and the vibes of a beach and summer.
According to fans’ theories about the concept of the song, it was revealed that “Dance The Night Away” actually has a horror concept because some of the members were wearing black outfits and they resembled a ghost or a demon. Such a surprising theory, right?
On one of their encore stage performances of “Dance The Night Away” TWICE kept their cheerful and cute image with the dominant blue and white floral outfits, they also performed as cheerful as ever, with a slight of random cute dance within it. And no wonder “Dance The Night Away” successfully received top rank in various music charts as well!

(G)I-DLE – Hann (Alone)
(G)I-DLE always amaze their fans with each of their comebacks, and “Hann” is, of course, no exception! The comeback single was released on August 14th, 2018, right after their debut in May 2018. One of the members, Soyeon, was involved in the writing lyrics process.
About the concept; from the teaser of “Hann” we could see that there’s a monochrome concept where (G)I-DLE members were wearing black, white and grey mixtured outfits with mostly black colors. The members were looking like goddesses with the black and white, colorful, and floral outfits while they were dancing stunningly. “Hann,” or also famously known as “Alone,” tells a story about people who want to forget their past love.
The single “Hann” is a kind of K-Pop and dance-pop genre, with a mixture of deadpan raps, and sweet verses too. During one of the encore stage performances of “Hann,” (G)I-DLE members were looking as stylish as ever, with their dazzling and metallic outfit, and also with the printed outfit as well!

Sunmi – Siren
One of the ex-members of Wonder Girls, Sunmi, released her comeback single “Siren” in September 2018, along with the album Warning. The single brought Sunmi her first perfect-skill certificate, which meant “Siren” got the top rank in real-time charts and daily charts from the six biggest Korean music charts such as Melon, Genie, Bugs, Naver, Soribada, and Mnet.
Meanwhile, “Siren” stands for the famous creature from the Greek mythology, but it also stands for a siren sign. From the translation of the lyrics, we could see that “Siren” is a ‘warning’ and has ambiguous meaning, where a girl is warning the boy about herself and tells him not to come closer. Sunmi was involved in the process of making “Siren,” and she also wrote the lyrics of it. “Siren” is the last part of her trilogy album, starting with “Gashina,” followed by “Heroine,” and closing with “Siren.”
On one of her encore stage performances, Sunmi was looking as chic as usual, but also there was a hint of a ‘dark’ aura just like a Siren aura within her performance as well! And obviously, she got the crowd to be amazed by her great vocal performance!

Monsta X – Shoot Out
There’s also Monsta X and their comeback in 2018 with “Shoot Out!” The comeback single was released on October 22nd, 2018, and included in the album Take 1: Are You There? Through “Shoot Out,” Monsta X proved that their comeback is different than before, and the music video also became one of the best on the October lists. This time, Monsta X didn’t have a plot concept, but even though there was no plot, from the music video we could connect each of the scenes with the lyrics of “Shoot Out.”
Monsta X’s members were wearing a kind of jumpsuit, and they were dancing in the form of a prison cage. Not only that, from the music video, there’s also other equipment just like handcuffs, chains, muzzles, and a lot more. Generally, “Shoot Out” was within the prison theme. Then, what about the song’s meaning? “Shoot Out” actually stands as an analogy about a love that is coming to an end and a relationship that is broken, all this combined with a kind of fantasy about love.

TWICE – Yes or Yes
Next, we are back again with TWICE, this time TWICE made a comeback with the single “Yes or Yes.” The single was released on November 5th, 2018, along with the music video and it was included in their sixth extended play, Yes or Yes. Meanwhile, the single tells about a love story where the girl asks for a yes from the boy. If the boy can’t decide yet, the girl gives him two options, those are ‘yes or yes.’
“Yes or Yes” is a kind of color pop genre, sounding bouncy and bright. From the teaser, we could see that the concept of “Yes or Yes” is kind of a fairytale concept, which also makes each member to be dressed and hairstyled to be a special character, such as a witch, vintage-retro girl, and many more. Each style is representing each of the members pretty well, they have been wearing the animal printed top, peeky skirt, plaid shirt, and many more!
TWICE got the trophy for their first rank in Show Champion. During their encore stage performances on certain occasions, they were wearing the colorful image and radiant style, and it was well matched with TWICE’s usual image.

Mino – Fiance
Last but not least, there’s Mino and the hit single “Fiance.” The single was included in his first solo album, XX which was also his comeback at that time. The most important thing about the single it that it was written and produced by himself along with Texu and Future Bounce. Basically, the single Fiance tells the story about Mino who was looking for someone else or a partner for his future.
“Fiance” was officially released on November 26th, 2018, along with the music video. Then, what about the concept of “Fiance?” It is a kind of mixture between a modern and historical one as well. Meanwhile, the single is a kind of hip-hop and trot music genre. In December 2018, Mino appeared in Show Champion and performed the single “Fiance.” And as we had expected, he got the first rank for the single “Fiance!”
During one of his encore stages, Mino was rocking the stage with his style and performance. He was looking as stylish as possible and proved his great vocal skills to the crowds.
