Road to Kingdom is the male idol group version of Mnet’s Queendom. Road to Kingdom provides a second chance to new groups or less popular idol groups to gain exposure through the global TV program. Road to Kingdom was held from April 30th to June 18th, 2020, by Mnet. There were seven contestants that competed in an attempt to win the prize, an appearance at the ultimate idol survival show, Kingdom.
Road to Kingdom showed the struggle of each contestant and the pressure to survive until the final stage. In the program, their creativity, determination, and mentality were key to achieving the prize. Each of the contestants promoted themselves and gained votes from global K-Pop fans and judges. In the end, only one idol group could be the winner and participate in Mnet’s Kingdom.

All About Road to Kingdom
Road To Kingdom is an idol survival show by Mnet. The music program was broadcast from April 30th to June 18th, 2020. It is considered as the male version of Queendom.
Seven groups of Korean idols competed in a bid to revive their musical career. Most of the groups have huge potential and are mostly unknown to global fans and not just to hardcore fans. All groups battled to survive to win a spot in Kingdom.
In order to provide insight, short video clips of Queendom participants were aired in the first episode. Some basic information or hints about the program and future participants were given as well, such as:
- Only one group will survive and enter the kingdom
- Two groups will be eliminated during the program
- Each group must prepare four performances, excluding the eliminated groups
- There are seven idol group participants
- There is a 90-Second preliminary performance
Elimination Rules
Two groups will be eliminated before the final performance. Elimination rules:
- One group will be eliminated when collecting the lowest total points from the first and second performance
- One group will be eliminated when collecting the lowest total points from the third performance
During the final performances, the progress of each group would be based on the following rules:
- Points from the three preliminary performances (10.000 points–1st performance; 10.000 points–2nd performance; 10.000 points–3rd performance)
- Points from the streaming platform (official videos that are posted on YouTube and Naver TV–maximum 15.000 points)
- Points from comeback singles–maximum 15.000 points
- Points from final live comeback stage performance–maximum 35.000 points

Road to Kingdom Participants
Pentagon
Pentagon is a multinational idol group that consists of nine members: Jinho, Hui, Hongseok, Shinwon, Yeo One, Yan An, Yuto, Kino, and Wooseok. Pentagon made their debut on October 10th, 2016, by releasing their debut album Pentagon. All Pentagon members were selected from Mnet’s idol survival program Pentagon Maker.
ONF
ONF is a Korean boy band formed by WM Entertainment. They debuted as a seven-member group on August 3rd, 2017. One of the members, Laun departed from the group on August 23rd, 2019. ONF members are Hyojin, E-Tion, J-us, Wyat, MK, and U. Prior to joining ONF and WM Entertainment, members were trainees from major entertainment companies like Starship Entertainment, JYP Entertainment, and Big Hit Entertainment. They made a seven-member group and performed as B1A4’s backup dancers on several occasions.
Golden Child
Golden Child is a Korean idol group formed by Woollim Entertainment. Golden Child debuted on August 28th, 2017, with their debut EP Gol-Cha! Initially, Golden Child consisted of eleven members: Daeyeol, Y, Jangjun, Tag, Seungmin, Jaehyun, Jibeom, Donghyun, Joochan, and Bomin.
Golden Child has won various music awards such as Global Rookie Top 5 at the V Live Awards, The Best New Artist at the Fandom School Awards, K-Pop Bonsang at the Korea Culture and Entertainment Awards, 1st Place (Wannabe) at Mnet’s M Countdown. Golden Child was the first idol group to be eliminated in Mnet’s Road To Kingdom music program.
THE BOYZ
The Boyz is a Korean idol group formed by Cre.ker Entertainment in 2017. There are eleven members of The Boyz: Sangyeon, Jacob, Younghoon, Hyunjae, Juyeon, Kevin, New, Q, Ju Haknyeon, Sunwoo, Eric. The Boyz debuted with their debut EP Boy released on December 6th, 2017. One of the members, Hwall departed from The Boyz due to health problems. The Boyz joined Mnet’s Road to Kingdom and won the first place.
VERY VERY
Very Very is an idol group formed by Jellyfish Entertainment. Very Very made their debut on January 9th, 2019, by releasing their extended play Veri-Us. Very-us includes the lead single “Ring Ring Ring.” Very Very consists of seven members: Dongheon, Hoyoung, Minchan, Gyehyeon, Yeonho, Yongseung, and Kangmin. Very Very recently released their latest EP Face You with its lead single “Thunder.” Very Very joined Mnet’s Road to Kingdom and reached the final performance stage. Very Very finished at the No. 5 position.
ONEUS
Oneus is a Korean idol group under the management of RBW. It consisted of six members: Ravn, Seoho, Leedo, Keonhee, Hwanwoong, and Xion. On January 9th, 2019, Oneus made their debut by releasing their debut EP Light Us. All of Oneus members had participated in various idol survival show. Their debut EP, Light Us includes the lead single “Valkyrie.” Oneus released Twilight in Japan and sold 60,000 copies within two months of release. Oneus joined Road to Kingdom and finished in the fourth place. Oneus released their latest album In Its time.
TOO
TOO are the youngest Road to Kingdom participants. TOO debuted on April 1st, 2020, by releasing their mini-album Reason for Being: Benevolence. The album included the title track “Magnolia.” TOO joined Road to Kingdom and became the second group to be eliminated. TOO consists of ten members: Chilhoon, DOnggeon, Chan, Jisu, Minsu, Jaeyun, J.You, Kyungho, Jerome, and Woonggi. TOO released their latest album Running TOOgether on July 15th, 2020.
THE BOYZ Won and Will Participate in Kingdom
The Boyz was one of the best participants in Road to Kingdom. They were also the most consistent one. They were crowned winners on June 19th, 2020, at the final live performance show. The Boyz will get the chance to compete in the upcoming idol survival show Kingdom. In Kingdom, The Boyz will be competing with more established idol groups. The date for the Kingdom program hasn’t been decided yet.
In the final episode, The Boyz performed their popular song “Checkmate” and gained a whopping 95.765 points. The points were collected from online views, viewers’ votes, and EP quality.
Regarding their achievement, The Boyz expressed their gratitude to the staff who worked tirelessly in supporting them. They also thanked the fan group The Bs for always supporting The Boyz. They look forward to meeting the other idol groups and compete in Kingdom.
News About Kingdom
Mnet’s comeback war, Kingdom is scheduled to take place from August 27th to October 29th, 2020. The Boyz are confirmed as an automatic contestant. Lee Da-hee and Jang Seong-gyu are expected to host the program. Comeback War, Kingdom will be aired every Thursday at 8 PM KST.
