Baek Ah Yeon participated in the first season of the talent competition show in 2012 titled K-Pop Star. In the first season of K-Pop Star, she became one of the top bright three contestants alongside Park Ji-min and Lee Hi. As she was eliminated on the show, various entertainment companies offered her a contract. Baek Ah Yeon chose to sign with JYP Entertainment which was also one of the companies involved as judges in K-Pop Star.

Baek Ah-yeon’s Debut as a Solo Artist

Since Baek Ah Yeon become popular after K-Pop Star as the third rank, she became a solo artist right after signing an exclusive contract with JYP Entertainment. Apparently, during that time, not one song was written by JYP himself in her debut album. On September 5th, 2012, her first album titled I’m Baek and tracklist were revealed through Naver Music. This album titled I’m Baek is composed of five tracks: “Slow Song,” “You’re Leaving, Stay,” “Love, Love, Love,” “Always,’ and the lead single “Sad Song.” On September 10th, Baek Ah Yeon’s debut album was officially released on all the major music streaming websites.

Some musicians collaborated on her music album I’m Baek, like songwriter Super Chingddai who has even worked with famous artists like 2PM, Miss A, Teen Top, and Kim Beom Soo, wrote the title song “Slow Song,” Junsu from 2PM, also known as Jun. K specifically wrote the song lyrics of “Always” for Baek Ah Yeon. Some other songwriters also contributed to the remaining tracks.

From a source, JYP Entertainment revealed, “As she has been training with us JYPE, she’s improved and brought out the talent and potential in her that was previously suppressed inside herself. Listeners and fans will be able to experience more emotionally appealing vocals in Baek Ah Yeon’s debut single.”

Not only she released an album, but Baek Ah Yeon has also contributed to K-drama soundtracks. On December 15th, Baek launched her first original soundtrack Daddy Long Legs for the SBS drama Cheongdam-dong Alice. She also recorded “Introduction to Love” for MBC’s drama titled When a Man Falls in Love. Next, in June 2013, she also released “A Good Boy,’ then “Tears Are Also Love,” for the MBC drama Goddess of Fire OST. Moreover, in May 2014, Baek released the track “The Three Things I Have Left,” especially for the SBS drama Angel Eyes. She also released another track, “Morning of Canon,” for MBC’s drama You Are My Destiny. Baek Ah Yeon also sang “So We Are” for the soundtrack of the famous K-Drama Yong-pal.

Her first single and self-composed song, “Shouldn’t Have” (featuring Day6’s Young K) was released on May 20th, 2015. She received recognition for this song since it hit number one in assorted Korean music charts.

In May 2016, she released her second single “So-So” and in November 2016, she also released the holiday single titled “Just Because” featuring JB from Got7. On May 29th, 2017, her third EP titled Bittersweet contains six tracks and the lead single “Sweet Lies” featuring The Barberettes. Her latest, fourth mini-album, was released in November 2018, titled Dear Me consisting of six songs, with the top single “Sorry To Myself.”

Baek Ah-yeon Departing from JYP Entertainment

On September 16th, 2019, Baek Ah Yeon confirmed that she has left JYP Entertainment for good since her contract expired and she decided not to renew the contract.

JYP Entertainment compiled that they will continue to sincerely cheer Baek Ah Yeon’s bright future and asked fans to support the singer in their music in order to receive love and deliver happiness. As news released, the contract apparently expired on August 30th, 2019.

On September 16th, on her personal Instagram account, Baek Ah Yeon posted a farewell caption saying sincerely ‘goodbye’ to JYP Entertainment which since 2012 had continuously supported her music career. Below is her Instagram post!
