The news is quite surprising coming from the girl group EXID. Junghwa and Hani will certainly not renew their contract with Banana Culture Entertainment.

On Friday, May 3rd, the agency issued an official statement about the contract extension of EXID members. The agency revealed that only Hyerin, L.E, and Solji renewed the contract. Hani and Junghwa decided to leave the agency to pursue their individual goals. Both of them left the agency last May.

Even though the two members chose to leave, the agency confirmed that EXID would not disband. Banana Culture Entertainment describes the future of members and groups through the following official statement:

Hello, this is Banana Culture Entertainment.

We wrote this to let you know about the EXID contract extension. Members Solji, L.E, and Hyerin have renewed their contracts with our label with their loyalty to us, while Hani and Junghwa have chosen to look for new agencies to pursue their individual goals at the end of May 2019, after a long discussion with us. The three members who have chosen to renew the contract plan to focus on their respective promotions for now. Solji and L.E each have famous talents in vocal, rap, and making music. They plan to prepare a solo promotion. Hyerin is thinking about various broadcast promotions and music activities to enhance her attractive and expressive image.

EXID is a group that is not only meaningful to our agency but also fans. We are aware of this and therefore we do not intend to consider dissolving the group. The members also do not believe that this is dissolution, but an opportunity to face a new beginning. They are considering ways to continue promoting as a group again in the future. We plan to make our best efforts as a bridge to Solji, L.E, and Hyerin’s successful and safe solo promotions and we will not hold back any support so that members can continue to greet the public through various activities.

We are also very grateful to Hani and Junghwa, who have chosen to part with our company. Although the contractual relationship ends here, we will continue to support their future sincerely. We ask for a lot of cheers and your support for the five EXID members, who are currently waiting for their new start. Thank you.

Meanwhile, EXID debuted in February 2012 with the single “Whoz That Girl.” This group unexpectedly managed to achieve success after releasing the single “Up & Down” in 2014.
