Jeon Hye-jin in ‘The Throne’
The Throne is a 2015 South Korean historical period film directed by Lee Joon-ik, and starring Song Kang-ho and Yoo Ah-in. Set during the reign of King Yeongjo, the film is about the life of Crown Prince Sado, the heir to the throne who was deemed unfit to rule and, at age 27, was condemned to death by his own father by being locked in a rice chest for eight days.

In this movie, Jeon Hye-jin is Lady Yi, courtesan to King Yeonjo and the birth mother of Crown Prince Sado. Jeon Hye-jin leads a lonely, pitiful life, not unlike that of a wife who’s ignored by her husband. Jeon Hye-jin portrayed a mother whose maternal love for Sado endures pressure and pain very realistically.
Thanks to her amazing acting, Jeon Hye-jin won as Best Supporting Actress at the 36th Blue Dragon Film Awards in 2015 and 7th Korean Film Reporters Association Awards (KOFRA) in 2016.
