Jun Hyo-sung’s Debut as Five Girls
Five Girls is a girl group consisting of 5 members, namely Jun Hyo-sung, G.NA, Wonder Girls’ Yubin, After School’s UEE, and SPICA’s Yang Ji-won. The girl group was scheduled to debut around 2007 but unfortunately, they didn’t make it due to the company’s financial troubles.
Although Five Girls’ debut was canceled, each member of the group has officially debuted as part of a different girl group and even started their career as a solo artist. The first who made her debut was Kim Yoo-bin (김유빈). She debuted on September 7th, 2007, as a member of Wonder Girls under JYP Entertainment, a group that consists of 5 girls. The second one is Kim Yoo-jin (김유진) who debuted in April 2009, as a member of After School and became famous with her stage name UEE under Pledis Entertainment. The group consists of 6 members.
The third one is Jun Hyo-sung (전효성) who made her official debut in October 2009 as a member of a girl group named SECRET under TS Entertainment, which consists of 4 members. The fourth one is Gina Jane Choi (최지나) who debuted in 2007 as a solo singer under Cube Entertainment, with her stage name G.NA (지나).
The last one is Yang Ji-won (양지원) who made her official debut in 2006 as a member of the girl group SPICA, under CJ E&M Music and B2M Entertainment. Yang Ji-won was used to under Core Contents Media in order to debut as a member of T-ARA but she left before the group debuted in 2009. In her recent activities, Yang Ji-won once participated in a survival show, The Unit, in 2017 and made her debut in the girl group, UNI.T, with 7 other members.
Jun Hyo-sung’s Debut as SECRET
Jun Hyo-sung finally made her official debut as a member of a girl group named SECRET (Hangul: 시크릿) which officially made their debut in October 2009 under TS Entertainment with 4 members: Jun Hyo-sung, Song Ji-eun, Jung Ha-na, and Han Sun-hwa.
SECRET’s debut with their first single, “I Want You Back,” didn’t catch the attention of the public. it wasn’t until they had released a few more singles and made a few more comebacks that SECRET started to slowly advance in the entertainment world and obtain fame and popularity, especially after the release of singles, such as “Magic” and “Madonna” in 2010. SECRET was known as a group who lived in a very poor environment so they were called the “basement idols” but their success was able to turn their life around and lead to better conditions.
Between 2010-2011, SECRET won various awards, such as the Newcomer Award at the 25th Golden Disk Awards, Song of the Year at the Gaon Chart Awards, Best Dance Performance by a Female Group at the 3th Mnet Asian Music Awards, the Bonsang award at the 21st Seoul Music Awards and at the 3rd Melon Music Awards, and many more. SECRET has been categorized as one of K-Pop’s legendary girl groups for their concept and stage presence as well.
The group had been active for more than 7 years with their concept, sexy yet cute, and they made their latest comeback with the release of the single, “I’m In Love” (2014). The group also released their Japanese tracks “Christmas Magic” (2011), “Shy Boy” (2012), “Love is Move” (2012), and “YooHoo” (2014). Their comeback has been anticipated by their fans, Secret Time, as the group has become even more popular in their country and is internationally famous.
Unfortunately, the group took a hiatus around 2015-2016 with no official statement from their agency, TS Entertainment. On September 26th, 2016, one of SECRET’s member, Han Sun-hwa announced that she will be leaving the group without a renewal of the contract with TS Entertainment. Han Sun-hwa was reported of joining a new agency to pursue her dream in acting in a different agency.
Later, on February 28th, 2018, SECRET’s Hyo-sung was reported to have another issue with TS Entertainment due to a legal dispute that Hyo-sung didn’t receive her payments and recently called a lawyer to make her case against TS Entertainment. Before the issue that happened to Hyo-sung, SECRET’s Ji-eun also left the group, in August 2017, since her contract was violated.
Due to the issues that have been reported by each member, SECRET officially disbanded as the members left the group one by one.
