Get Closer With Jang Dong-gun’s Wife, Go So-young
Go So-young is a South Korean actress and model. She debuted in the TV drama Love Tomorrow in 1993, and quickly established herself as a representative star of her generation. She made her film debut opposite Jung Woo-sung in The Fox with Nine Tails in 1994, which ranked as the first Korean film ever to use computer-generated images, although it failed to make an impression on audiences or critics.
After a while, she achieved wide recognition through her role in Beat (again with Jung Woo-sung), a film that caught the imagination of many South Korean high school students. Since then, she has acted in a series of successful melodramas, portraying a young model in If the Sun Rises in the West, a Jeju Island tour guide in Love Wind Love Song, and a Korean American adoptee in Love. In terms of education, she attended an all-female high school before gaining early admission to Chung-Ang University, where she studied computer science.
Go’s husband is also a famous celebrity from South Korea, Jang Dong-gun. They married in 2010, and the couple now has two children.

In 2001, Go teamed up with actor Lee Sung-jae in A Day, about a married couple who have trouble conceiving a child. Her acting in the film was much praised and garnered the Best Actress prize from the local Grand Bell Awards ceremony. Then, after two years off, Go returned in 2003 opposite Han Suk-kyu in the spy thriller Double Agent; however, the film failed to live up to the expectations of most viewers and critics. She then shot two films in 2006: the horror film APT, by director Ahn Byeong-ki, and the romantic comedy Project Makeover, by debut director Jeon Young-gap. After two commercial flops in 2007 with Project Makeover and the SBS drama Blue Fish, Go went on hiatus.
A decade after her last appearance, Go made a comeback with the 2017 KBS drama Ms. Perfect, as one of the main cast.
Go So-young’s Wedding
On May 2, 2010, the celebrity couple tied the knot and held their life promise. Jang Dong-gun and actress Go So-young were both 38 back then, and were married in Hotel Shilla in central Seoul at 5 p.m., in front of some 600 guests.
At a press event the afternoon before the wedding, Jang appeared in a black tuxedo by Tom Ford and Go, who was three months pregnant, was dressed in a white Oscar de la Renta wedding dress.
“We were grateful for the interest from fans, although there were times when the pressure was getting too much,” Jang said.
“But at least for today, we are very grateful. People say you get really nervous when you walk down the aisle and the whole wedding experience starts to sink in. We went to the hospital a few days ago, and the baby is healthy. We don’t know yet whether it will be a boy or a girl, but personally, I hope it is a girl resembling So-young.”
Go said, “I feel great today. We’ll have a great life together.”
The wedding itself was private, and some 70 bodyguards were on duty at the wedding hall. World-renowned florist Jeff Leatham was flown to Korea to oversee the arrangements, and Hotel Shilla’s senior vice president Lee Boo-jin, who is friends with Go, directed the overall flower decoration.
Former culture minister Lee O-young officiated at the wedding.
Jang met the respected scholar through his son, Lee Sang-moo, who directed Jang’s latest film The Warrior’s Way.
Actor Park Joong-hoon hosted the event, with singer Shin Seung-hoon singing the congratulatory song.
The couple spent the night at the hotel and set off on a five-day honeymoon in Bali, Indonesia. They would then live in a villa in Heukseok-dong, Seoul.
Jang Dong-gun and Go So-young’s Family
Currently, the couple has the children, named Jang Jun-hyeok and Jang Yoon-seol. Jang Jun-hyuk, their first child, was born in 2010. Four years later, on February 25, 2014, they happily welcomed their second child, a daughter named Jang Yoon-seol.
Despite their busy schedules, they still manage their time to accompany their children, especially in their special moments. On March 2, 2017, the celebrity couple attended the entrance ceremony for their son, Jang Joon Hyuk, who’s going into 1st grade this year. It’s reported that the two stars showed great love and support for their son, and were also spotted casually chatting with other parents. It’s one of the best moments to spend quality time with the children. Jang Dong-gun and Go So-young are trying their best to support their children by spending lots of time with them.
Not just their devotion to their family, this couple is also known for their generousity. The actor-actress couple recently donated 100 million won (approximately $88,800) to the Asan Medical Center in Seoul, in October, 2018, and asked that it be used to pay for the medical treatment of sick children from families with financial difficulties.
Since October 2010, Jang Dong-gun and Go So-young have made donations of 100 million won every year to a special welfare organization that supports families of single mothers, in honor of their eldest son’s birthday. This year, they chose to donate to the Asan Medical Center to help pediatric patients in need.
The couple has consistently given back to the community. They’ve participated in various donation and volunteer events for the victims of the Pohang earthquake that occurred last November.
Let’s wish all warm success and properousity to this family!
