General Information About IU
Who doesn’t know IU? The singer of the popular song “BBIBBI” is one of the most respected singers in South Korea. The singer, whose real name is Lee Ji-eun, not only sings on stage but she also plays guitar, composes songs, is a television host, and has even diversified her career in the entertainment industry by entering the world of acting. IU is often labeled as the Korean princess because of her outstanding beauty.
People are always getting excited by seeing her incredibly beautiful face. IU even entered Forbes magazine in 2012 and is often ranked number 1 on the Korean and even international charts, such as Billboard. Her very sweet voice has even made many male idols to become her fans, like, for example, BTS’ Jungkook.
IU Fell in ‘Love at First Sight’ for Jang Ki-ha
A large number of the South Korean public was stunned by the news about IU’s alleged boyfriend. Of course, everyone would be curious about who the lucky man to get this beautiful, sweet-voiced girl is. After everyone’s investigation, the media found that IU is actually dating Jang Ki-ha. Jang Ki-ha happens to be a singer as well. Additionally, he is a songwriter, hosts several television shows, and acts in various shows.
IU and Jang Ki-ha met in 2013 during a radio show that he was hosting, and began a relationship just shortly after. It wasn’t until October 2015 that their relationship went public after Dispatch revealed photos of the two on a date. In October 2015, IU confirmed the dating news herself through her official fan cafe:
“Sorry for not letting you know sooner. We′ve been dating for close to two years now. We met for the first time during a radio show, and I fell in love with him at first sight.”
She continued, “He is a boyfriend I have a lot to learn from and am really thankful for. We′re in a normal relationship, where we′re fine, we fight, we feel sorry and we feel thankful. I was thinking about a better way in which I could tell all of you, but someone beat me to it. It′s sudden, but I think I′m going to have to go public with my relationship.”
She concluded by writing, “I′m sorry and thankful for all of your worries, support, sadness. I simulated the situation numerous times, but now that I′m faced with it, I don′t know how to tell you all. For now, I will be doing my work energetically.”
IU’s company confirmed the relationship and said it’s actually been two years. “After checking with IU, we confirmed that she and Jang Ki-ha both have good feelings towards one another. Starting from two years ago, the two began interacting, and they began having good feelings towards each other. The two are currently happily seeing each other.”
IU and Jang Ki-ha: Love Is In the Air
The fans were rather surprised because the age gap between IU and Jang Ki-ha is actually quite big. However, even though their age gap is around 11 years, Jang Ki-ha has not been reluctant to disclose his relationship with IU.
During a recent appearance on the MBC radio show Good Morning FM with Noh Hong Chul, Jang Ki-ha spoke briefly about his relationship with songstress IU.
IU’s boyfriend, Jang Ki-ha, appeared as a guest on the show on June 6th, where he was asked by the host DJ Noh Hong Chul regarding how his relationship was going with IU. In response, Jang Ki-ha said, “There are people who worry for us, but we are doing well.”
In the MBC FM4U’s radio program Tei’s Dreaming Radio, broadcaster Tei posed a question that surprised Jang Ki-ha.
When he was asked about what he liked about IU, he answered: “Lots. Not enough to mention it in one event, but I often express my feelings. She is currently filming a drama, and I visit the set to cheer her up. Even though we don’t have enough time to go on a date for days at times, but we are on good terms.”
Not only that, their sweet relationship continued until the neighbors caught up with them often going on dates quietly. To keep the secret of their relationship, Jang Ki-ha turned out to have his own way so that the dating agenda is not interrupted. With the help of one of his colleagues, Hong Seok-chun who has a restaurant, IU’s boyfriend managed to keep their dates a secret, “One day, I got a call from Jang Ki-ha, who told me that there was a friend he wanted to eat with, but they wanted the event to be a private event. (Apparently) IU arrived that day.”
As a guest star on the Heard It Through the Grapevine program, Hong Seok-chun told how Jang Ki-ha and IU’s date went on before the media found out about their relationship. Without hesitation as celebrity and restaurant owner, Hong Seok-chun also helped both. “We did not let other customers come to the restaurant that day, so there were only the two of them eating together. After that, we also prepared the tables for them.”
Why IU and Jang Ki-ha Ended Their Relationship?
Sadly, after being in a relationship for 4 years, IU and Jang Ki-ha eventually broke up. Both were confirmed to have ended the relationship around the end of January 2017. They had been breaking up and getting back together for a while. The two of them had already been experiencing a lot of relationship issues in the previous months before they finally decided to call it quits for good.
Jang Ki-ha’s label confirmed, “It’s true that they have broken up. They have decided to stay in good terms as senior-junior.” Loen Entertainment, IU’s agency, also confirmed the breakup with the exact same statement.
One of the reasons as to why their relationship didn’t manage to last longer is because of their very busy schedules in regards to their respective careers. It has been proven time and time again that it is important to spend time with your special someone, as it fosters the connection that you have with each other.
Many people were sad to see the end of their relationship. However, who would have thought that on several occasions, fans have found that Jang Ki-ha likes IU’s photos and even posted kimchi cuisine once, which is IU’s favorite food. But if there’s anything good about their breakup, it is the fact that they have decided to remain friends. It was said that they do not have ill feelings towards each other even after the breakup.
