However, conflicts arise when Woo-jin realizes that he misunderstood her name when they were 17-years-old, thinking it was her friend’s name who died in the accident. His realization breaks his heart and he is feeling guilty for completely ruining Seo-ri’s life. Woo-jin decides to leave the house. He left a letter to Seo-ri which told her about his one-sided love for her thirteen years ago and blaming himself for Seo-ri’s loss. His letter ends with an apology to Seo-ri, for wanting to be near her and for stealing her time from her.
Seo-ri goes to a place that’s special to her and Woo-jin. She’s crying as she remembers that Woo-jin’s promised her that he wouldn’t disappear again. She slumps to the ground, but looks up when she hears Woo-jin’s voice saying that says he’s not leaving. He goes on to say that he couldn’t bear the thought of breaking his promise to her. She rises and embraces him, and they both pull each other close.
Seo-ri confesses that actually thirteen years ago she noticed Woo-jin first, had a crush on him first and liked him first. She adds that when she approached him in the bus, she already knew how to get to the art center because she had been there many times and always got off at the next stop. She told him that the accident wasn’t his fault, and she would have gotten off at the next stop as she always did. She added that she wasn’t the only one stuck at the age of seventeen for thirteen years. Woo-jin pulls Seo-ri into a long kiss and their lost years begin to melt away.
The story has a happy ending, as Seo-ri and Woo-jin get married. Seo-ri also got into college to become music therapist. At home, Woo-jin opens the skylight and invites her up there. Woo-jin narrates that people say that when one door to happiness closes, another door to happiness opens. But many people only focus on the door that has closed, and don’t realize that another door to happiness exists. He relates how the simple things have brought them happiness, and that they’ve learned to open that new door, just like Seo-ri taught him to open the skylight. They look out the window and smile together.
